Light the fire - we'll Chilli up!

As the cold draws in fiery Hungarian paprika can be just the answer - so the November Tokaj-Hegyalja artisan market focuses on all things spicy this time... even chocolate, so the sweet-toothed will be satisfied too.

Sunday the 8th November from 10 to 3pm :)

Find out more about the market on the Tokaj wine region events website in English.

Vineyard run and bon bons

Wine lovers often seem to be runners... And one of the most beautiful settings for a run must be a harvest time vineyard. So Disznókő opens up the rows to runners of all ages and abilities on 11th October for the 3rd Disznókő vineyard run. Goulash and wine for all runners!

Meanwhile the theme of the market is all things sweet - "bon-bons" - and gorgeously coloured rainbow macaroons!

Knee deep in lavender - the first night market

Perhaps 40 C is a little too hot for producers and products, as well as for visitors? So this market is being held on Saturday night so we can enjoy the warm evening with jazz on the terrace, perhaps a glass of Tokaji wine...

Saturday 8th August from 5 to 11 pm!

Sprizer surprise

It has been REALLY hot in the region recently. So a refreshing spritzer (Fröccs in Hungarian) is so welcome. Thirst quenching, delicious, and beautiful as the bubbles float to the top. Effervescent wonder! With wines from up-and-coming young winemaker Dorka Homoky and real fruit cordials to taste.

Hungary in July is becoming golden, as the sunflowers bloom, the corn is ready for harvesting and the trees are heavy with juicy apricots - which will be on sale at the market. Perfect for jam making! Cooling apricot delights on the Sárga Borház terrace, shady play area for little ones, windmill and fan-making from recycled materials.

The market is, as usual, the second Sunday of the month, Sunday 12th July

Picnic in the Vineyard

As the weather warms, what better way to enjoy the growing vines than with a picnic basket packed with goodies from the artisan producers at the Tokaj-Hegyalja pic market! There's evna bottle of chilled wine!

As well as the dog beauty competition, kite flying, bubble blowing and music. With Pinceköz wines at the terrace :)

Tuesday 5 May 2015

The second Sunday of the month is fast approaching - so it's market weekend again :)

Sweets and homemade cakes till you drop - the nearby town of Szerencs was home of Hungarian chocolate until the main factory closed. However, creative souls keen to keep the memory sweet and alive are creating their own beautiful handmade chocolates and bonbons. And the jam makers are experimenting too - with sweets and jellies from fruit only. Forget colourings! Nature gives such brightness :)

Go with the flow with fish dishes

Life can be so beautiful when we feel we are moving with the current, smoothly and fluidly, like a fish in clear blue waters.
And artisan markets can provide just that sense of peace with the world....
So, go with the flow - the Tokaj wine region is fed by two majestic rivers, the Bodrog and the Tisza.

Fish in all forms:
The traditional Hungarian specialty, fish soup, will be bubbling away in the cauldron at the market square
"FISH YOU LIKE" - at the stalls in all forms: marinated, smoked, baked, knitted, carved...
Fishing competition for "fisher children", fishing presentation for "Fisher folk"
And experts from Aggtelek National Park share their knowledge about "Fish in the river Bodrog"

The traditional market menu at the Sárga Borház Restaurant is, not surprisingly, all around fish
Birthday bonanza – The Tokaj-Hegyalja Market is celebrating three glorious years with cake, pálinka and music from market regulars Csaba Barsi and Agyagbanda
Even a market design retrospective through "Poster Tales: market history through our 33 posters"

The beautiful vineyard is perfect for the ponies of nearby Hátas Tanya who take children for a ride.
